Wide Base Drill
What this drill helps fix
Helps hitters who struggle to coil into the back hip, lose pressure in the back foot, open the upper body too early, or allow the hands and barrel to separate from the body. It trains the hitter to load with control, rotate the hips first, maintain barrel connection, and stay inside the ball through contact.
Why fixing this matters
A hitter who cannot maintain pressure, sequence the hips before the upper body, or keep the barrel connected will struggle to create consistent hard contact and adjust to different pitch locations. Learning to rotate from a strong position while staying inside the ball improves barrel control and gives the hitter a better chance to drive the ball through the middle of the field.
Coach Steve cue
Turn the back pocket to the pitcher, stomp the heel, fire the hips, and keep the knob to the catcher.
