PARENT FAQ
STRAIGHTANSWERS.
The questions parents ask before and during training, answered the same way I'd answer them at the cage.
GETTING STARTED
Who do you work with?
Serious hitters ages 8–18 across Long Island. Talent doesn't decide it. Commitment does. Whether the goal is moving up in the lineup or playing in college, the expectations are the same. I keep my roster capped so every player gets real attention.
How does it start?
Every new player starts with a one-hour assessment. I learn what you're trying to accomplish, see where the hitter is right now, and explain the first priorities and the recommended next step.
What if my hitter isn't the right fit?
I'll tell you. If a player isn't serious about the work, I'm not the right coach, and that's better for everyone to know early.
What should we bring?
Bat, helmet, and batting gloves if he uses them. Turf shoes or sneakers, and water. If you have recent game video, bring it — it helps.
TRAINING
How often should my hitter train?
It depends on the goal and the time of year, and we set it after the assessment. Reserved weekly lesson times are for players on a training program. I don't do one-off sessions after the assessment, because development needs consistency.
What should my hitter work on between sessions?
Every plan includes assignments tied to the goal: specific drills with a specific purpose. The sessions are where we teach and adjust. The work between them is where it sticks. If the work isn't getting done, we talk about commitment.
Do you only work on mechanics?
No. Hitting is 50% from the neck up. We train the swing and the mind together: pitch recognition, count approach, game situations, and decisions under pressure. A great swing is only half of hitting.
PROGRESS
How do you measure progress?
Video, Blast Motion data like bat speed and attack angle, session reports, and most important, what shows up in games, including quality at-bats. Data supports coaching decisions. It doesn't replace coaching judgment or game performance.
What should I watch for in games?
Quality at-bats, not just hits. Did he step in with a plan? Did he swing at his pitch? Did he battle with two strikes? A hard-hit out after a good at-bat is progress. One strikeout doesn't mean the swing is broken.
What if my hitter goes into a slump?
Expect it. Development isn't linear. Slumps, setbacks, and weeks that look like regression are part of learning one of the hardest skills in sports. We judge the whole process, not one game, and we adjust.
Can you guarantee results?
No. I don't guarantee stats or promise overnight changes. What I promise is a clear plan, honest feedback, and training where every rep has a purpose.
LOGISTICS
Where do lessons take place?
Mostly at The Tunnel in Westbury, NY. Details are confirmed when you schedule.
How do pricing and packages work?
After the assessment I recommend a program built around your hitter's goal, and pricing is shared then. Paid packages aren't refundable, but unused sessions stay available to complete.
