FOUNDATION: BEING ON TIME WITH THE PITCH

What this drill helps fix

Everything. A hitter can have a solid swing, strong mechanics, and plenty of bat speed—but if the body is not ready when the pitcher releases the ball, the hitter has to rush everything that comes next. The stride becomes late, the hands fall behind, the barrel has to play catch-up, and the hitter loses the ability to adjust.

Why fixing this matters

Hitters need to understand that they are really trying to be on time twice: 1. The body has to be on time with the pitcher. The hitter loads early, moves with the delivery, gets the eyes set, and is balanced and ready by release. 2. The barrel has to be on time with the ball. The stride lands, the hands stay connected, and the barrel arrives where and when the pitch does. That foundation gives the hitter what matters most: time to see, time to decide, and time to adjust. Without it, the hitter is guessing and reacting late. With it, the hitter can recognize the pitch, let the ball travel, handle different speeds, and still deliver a controlled swing. Mechanics tell the hitter how to swing. Timing gives them the chance to use those mechanics in a real at-bat.
