Foundations: Stepping in the Bucket
What this drill helps fix
This helps hitters who take a long stride away from the plate, open their hips too early, pull off the baseball, or struggle to cover the outside pitch. It teaches the hitter that landing slightly open can work only when the stride stays controlled, posture and hip hinge are maintained, and the hips do not rotate before the swing begins.
Why fixing this matters
Stepping too far away from the plate changes the swing path and forces the hitter to reach for outside pitches or come around the baseball, leading to weak contact and more swings and misses. A controlled open landing can create space for the barrel and allow the hitter to stay through the ball, but only if the hitter remains balanced, directional, and closed long enough to catch the ball deep.
